WOWO 30 March 2023

Once again it’s time for our popular MOTM competition. Eight contestants are vying for the honour of being called Mug Of The Month, with 50-word entries containing the key words BOX and RING. We look forward to a close vote – good luck to everyone!

Our programme continues with two short stories and six further poems, including two from new members. Welcome Emily and Alice!

In addition, there is a new song by Michael and Christine O’Dowd to add variety to our presentations.

And finally, the discussion on the new artistry software CHAT GPT4, begun last week, is being continued today. How can writers keep their individual profile with this new technology? A topic for the future!

A special word of thanks to Anne Murray – with so many contributions this week, she will have been very busy producing her wonderful background selections of pictures and frames for our texts. They are a superb enhancement of the presentations, producing a finish which is absolutely professional and of which we can all be proud. Thank you, Anne!

WOWO Thursday, 23 March

Will AI in the form of the new computer software CHATGPT4 make artists – painters, composers or, in our case, writers – redundant? How can we stand up to this new-world form of plagiarism? This worrying topic will be the basis of our discussion on Thursday.

Four poems and two short stories by old-established (or lately rejoined) members will be joined by a novel extract from a new member, Connor O’Donnell, to whom we extend a warm welcome.

Songs are rare offerings for our sessions and always appreciated. Thank you to Michael and Christine O’Dowd for submitting yours.

The deadline for Mug of the Month entries is approaching: Sunday 26 March. The Key Words are BOX and RING. Send to Anne Murray : annemurraypost@yahoo.ie

Looking forward to another stimulating and entertaining session of Write-On!

WOWO 16 March 2023

There will be no session of the Write-On Group this Thursday – we are taking a break for St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th!

We wish all our members and visitors an enjoyable holiday, and look forward to exciting new contributions at our next meeting on Thursday, 23 March.

And don’t forget: the closing date for submissions to the Mug of the Month competition is Sunday, March 26! The key words are BOX and RING. Texts containing these words and no longer than 50 words should be emailed or WhatsApped to annemurreypost@yahoo.ie .

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone!

WOWO – Thursday, 9 March 2023

In recent sessions, discussions on the theory of writing have proved profitable and popular in our group. After ‘Story Endings’ and ‘Characterisation’, this time we’re examining the structure of short stories.

We have several poetry submissions this week: A new poem by talented Seamus Keogh is always a special event, and we look forward to this week’s entry. Thomas MacMahon is a returning member after a long break – welcome back, Thomas, we’ve missed your gentle poems. Carmel NÍ Shúilleabheán is a gifted new member whom we hope to see personally this week. Elizabeth Hannon’s poem is not new, but a wonderful celebration of the passing seasons that speaks to everyone.

Similarly, the short stories are also revivals of past contributions, which can all stand up to a new reading, and will be enjoyed by new members who joined after they were first read.

Finally, there is still space for new contributions!

And not to forget the new Mug of the Month challenge: the key words this time are BOX and RING, and the closing date for the 50 word entry is March 26. Send your text to annemurraypost@yahoo.ie

Have an enjoyable and stimulating evening, everyone!
